A former football coach who sexually abused boys decades ago has been jailed for more than two years.

Ian Jolly abused four boys in Aberdeenshire in the 1980s and 1990s.

The 70-year-old admitted seven offences when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court last month.

He was jailed for 27 months when he returned to the court for sentencing on Monday, officials confirmed following the hearing.

The Crown Office said the offences came to light when one of his victims contacted police after seeing publicity around the investigation into alleged abuse in football.

The court heard Jolly abused one of the boys over a three year period, prosecutors said.

In total, Jolly admitted four charges of indecent assault and three of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices.

Andy Shanks, procurator fiscal for Grampian Highlands & Islands, said after the hearing: "Ian Jolly committed a number of serious sexual offences against boys.

"Although these crimes took place decades ago, this case, and others like it, show that justice can be achieved after many years."
