For those who woke up on New Year’s Day, promising that this is going to be their year, get ready because the ultimate get-fit challenge has just been revealed.

Cyclists from across the city - and beyond - are being urged to cross all 17 bridges over the River Clyde - from Dalmarnock to Bowling.

The ‘Ride the Clyde’ 30-mile challenge has been organised by the Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA) which supports families with the degenerative neurological condition Huntington’s disease (HD).

Those taking taking part are being asked to raise just £99, money that will be used to fund the SHA’s network of HD specialists, a world-leading youth support team and its financial wellbeing service.

SHA fundraising manager, Dougie Peddie, described the challenge as a chance for people “to take part in something new and achieve something previously never attempted on any scale.”

He said: “‘We think this is the first time this has ever been done and it’s open to families, as well as serious cyclists, and every penny raised will help improve the lives of people living with HD.”

The cycle is restricted to 35 riders so sign up as soon as possible. Ride the Clyde takes place on Sunday, March 25. To register, contact Dougie on 0141 848 0308 or email dougie.peddie@hdscotland.org.
