A HEROIN addict who stole a till from a Glasgow bar was warned not to 'wander the streets at night'.

Colin McGregor was told "it's time to give back" after years of drug abuse and bad behaviour.

The 40-year-old found himself in the dock following the till theft from Broadcast on January 31 last year. He also pleaded guilty – whilst acting alongside another still unknown to the Crown – to having a knife in his possession outside in Sauchiehall Street on February 2, 2017.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Lindsay Wood told the accused's lawyer: "His track record is not great."

Sheriff Wood then asked McGregor: "How long you been taking drugs?"

The accused replied: "Since I was 14."

The sheriff noted that McGregor was a heroin user, before asking if he abused other drugs. The accused responded that he would take "anything" in the past, but was now on a stable methadone prescription.

McGregor, whose address was given as HMP Barlinnie, was supported in court by his mum and dad.

Sheriff Wood acknowledged the accused's three children, adding: "They will have been through a lot. And your mum and dad.

"It's time to give back.

"I'll encourage you and keep you right, but if you mess me about..."

McGregor was placed on a structured deferred sentence and will return to court in April for a review.

Sheriff Wood lifted the accused's bail curfew in the meantime, but warned: "Don't be wandering the streets at night."
