THE University of Glasgow has issued an apology after an online gaffe.

Due to a systems error, a test email was distributed by the alumni office inviting graduates to a gala dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of the start of the university's BAcc programme.

The invitation, sent out last Wednesday, asked the former students to "save the date for what promises to be a memorable evening".

The alumni office team also asked for volunteers to act as class champions for their year group to reconnect with graduates and help spread the word about the event.

However, the following day the university issued an apology and thanked those who brought the error to their attention.

The email stated: "The distribution of this test email was due to a systems error.

"We are currently investigating further to establish the cause of this and will put measures in place to prevent similar errors happening in future.

"Please be assured that none of your personal data has been compromised.

"Thank you for your support and understanding."
