THE heartbroken mum of murdered Paige Doherty has vowed to travel to Barbados and New York in a bid to complete her daughter’s bucket list.
Almost two years on from the 15-year-old’s murder, mum Pamela Munro, alongside husband Andy, and children Andrew, Peyton, Lucas and tot Penny, are still mourning the loss of the schoolgirl.
And as the family prepare to mark the teen’s milestone 18th birthday in April, Paige has left her own gift for the family in the form of her incomplete bucket list, which is to be completed by her doting mum.
Among the tasks are trips to America and the Caribbean, as well as learning to drive and meeting The Only Way is Essex star Amy Childs.
But, like any teenager, Paige has made sure not all the tasks on the list for her mum will be easy – such as a new tattoo and tattooed eyebrows, which, Pamela jokes, she is definitely not keen on completing.
Pamela said: “Doing all these things help us. She’s still being talked about, she’s still being remembered. That’s important.”
As Pamela begins to tackle the bucket list, the family prepares to mark what should have been Paige’s 18th birthday in April the way she would’ve wanted – with a massive, glamorous and slightly over-the-top party in the deluxe Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.
Pamela, 35, said: “I always told Paige that she would have an 18th birthday party and George Bowie would be the DJ.
“This is the first time I’ve felt nervous speaking because Paige’s birthday was a big birthday for us. She couldn’t wait to go to the pub with me, and the dancing with me.
“It’s a big thing to have her 18th without her and having a such a big event, pulling it off, making it successful – it’s a lot of pressure.”
The ball will be held on Saturday, April 14, three days before Paige’s birthday, which will be spent privately with a large family dinner.
It’s not the birthday Pamela and Andy had hoped for their eldest daughter, but it’s a small comfort for the couple that at least the months leading up to the big day can be spent shopping for the teen’s gifts, just like any other parent.
Pamela added: “I’m still buying what I would have for her birthday – except for the Range Rover and the private registration plate that she was desperate for.
“It means something to us and we’ll auction the gifts off for the charity which is nice to see someone getting them.
“I buy her birthday presents every year without fail and Christmas too. Even if it means I give them away to a charity or Women’s Aid, I would not miss her out. I’ll do it for the rest of my life, until the day I die.”
Speaking about the event, Pamela told our sister title the Clydebank Post: “There will be a few surprises at the ball – for example, we’ve got birthday candles that people can donate to light up for her – and there’s going to be a few emotional things to mark it and the important people in her life.
“I don’t know what I will be like. There’s one part of it that I think could get me, and I keep saying ‘how am I going to do this’, but I will, for Paige.”
George Bowie, Zander Nation and a host of special guests will keep the crowd going at the “something for everyone” event.
A drinks reception will be held at 6pm prior to dinner at 7pm, with host Suzie McGuire kicking off the night of dancing, music and comedy shortly after.
