Theresa May has been asked to refund a Glasgow woman’s taxi fare after she went to her local Jobcentre only to find it had been shut down.

Alison Thewliss Glasgow Central MP raised the story at Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.

She said the woman in her 50s has COPD, blood clots and was just out of hospital after an operation.

Ms Thewliss told the Prime Minister:  “My constituent is 58, she has COPD, four pins in her leg a walking frame and is just out of hospital after having blot clots in her leg.”

She said the woman took a taxi to Bridgeton Jobcentre on Tuesday “only to find the doors locked because the Government closed it on Friday.”

Ms Thewliss added that she nor any other constituent seems to have been informed by the government of the closure.

She asked: “Will she apologise for not having told my constituent about the closure.

“And will she refund her the £10 she spend on a taxi and apologise for this absolutely ridiculous situation?”

The Prime Minister ignored the question about the woman and her situation and said services would be improved as a result of the six Jobcentre closures in the city.

She said: “There is not going to be any decrease in service and added Jobcentres would “continue to provide a good service to the people of Scotland.”
