A MAN has had surgery to his hand after a violent attack in Blantyre.

The 30-year-old is in a stable condition in hospital following the assault at around 6pm on Tuesday.

Police investigating the attack said he was assaulted by an unknown man in the grassed area to the rear of Carrick Gardens.

He then attended Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride where he is currently being treated for injuries to his hand and head.

Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10 inches, of slim build with a gaunt appearance. He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up.

Detective Constable Andrew Fearnside, at Cambuslang CID, said: "This was a violent attack which has left the victim with serious injuries requiring surgery to his hand.

"We have yet to establish a motive for this crime and appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Carrick Gardens around 6pm and witnessed the attack or anyone who has seen the suspect hanging around the area to contact CID at Cambuslang via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 3101 of 6 February 2018."
