UPDATE: ‘Death threats’ for Scots band who trashed Edinburgh bar as footage emerges of moment of destruction. See it here.

A SCOTTISH band has come under fire for vandalising a venue after a gig.

Majik Carpet have now pulled out of their scheduled performance at Stereo tonight after shocking pictures of their senseless destruction was shared on social media.

Bannermans Bar in Edinburgh posted images of the spray-painted walls on Facebook, stating: "This is how the band Majik Carpet feel it is ok to leave the venue accommodation after a gig here. Action is being taken & they are blacklisted to say the least."

Christian Kimmett, who works at Bannermans Bar, told the Evening Times the band vandalised the apartment above the Capital city venue.

He said: "We've got an apartment above the venue where there's space for the bands. They stayed over and we came back to that this morning.

"Nothing like this has happened before. Some bands will put a small sticker or logo on the wall, but this was spray-painted everywhere."

The police have been contacted for comment.

Following the incident, the band – believed to be a four-piece from Perth – deleted their Facebook page and cancelled their Glasgow gig.

Sinead Young, a booker at Stereo, confirmed that their show was not going ahead.

After becoming aware of the band's bad behaviour, the Renfield Lane bar's stance was to cancel their gig unless the musicians agreed to pay for the damage at the Edinburgh venue.

Sinead said: "Fortunately they pulled out before we made that decision for them.

"The damage was shocking. Their behaviour was unacceptable – no professional would do that."

The booker highlighted Scotland's tight-knit music community.

She added: "This story will go around quickly. It's a very sharp lesson for them to learn. They're going to have to start a new band."
