The family of a toddler murdered by Scotland's youngest killer have made a plea on social media for the public not to forget the three-year-old in the wake of the James Bulger case.

In August 1990, Jamie Campbell was lured away from his gran's garden in Drumchapel by an 11-year-old, Richard Keith, who beat him with sticks and stones before drowning him in a burn.

The case has been compared to that of James Bulger, who was murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson after being abducted from a Merseyside shopping centre in 1993.

James Bulger's death became an extremely high-profile case and made headlines again last week when Venables was imprisoned for child abuse images.

However, Jamie's family have this week, urged the public to remember their loss and the tragedy of having Jamie taken from them.

Jamie's cousin, Kimberley Mcphilips made an emotional post on Facebook asking the public to remember 'how sweet and funny' her 'partner in crime' was.

Alongside a photo of her and the toddler, she wrote: "Like many who watched the James bulger story followed and grew up with it, it saddens me and makes me angry. But there's a story very close to home that no one remembers but one that me and my family will never forget.

"This is Jamie Campbell my cousin he was 3 years old when he was taken in broad daylight from my Grans garden in Drumchapel on 24th August 1990.

Glasgow Times:

"He was taken by a young boy Richard Keith who was 11 years old he took Jamie to the park then murdered him. He was the youngest person to have committed murder in Scotland and still is to this day.

"He was charged with culpable homicide and only served 8 years at Kerlaw. He was released with a new identity and now lives amongst us with his family.

"I'm not taking anything away from the Bulger family and the horror they went through god bless them. When Jamie bulger was killed a Scottish social worker was interviewed by the news and was quoted to say "This would never have happened in Scotland" just 3 years after Jamie... his story forgotten.

"I just wanted to share this and to let people know how sweet and funny Jamie was a little ray of sunshine and my partner in crime. Please share this post to show his wee face so people dnt forget. Because we certainly don't. Forever in our hearts!"

The family were outraged to discover that Jamie's killer, Richard Keith, was on Facebook under his own name and appeared to be living a happy life in Scotland with his girlfriend.

Kimberley's post has been flooded with comments, condemning Jamie's killer and praising the family for keeping his memory alive.

Ruby Bannon wrote: "How heartbreaking is this story cant even remember hearing about it what a disgrace that there is no publicity to keep this wee boy in our thoughts god bless him and his family so so sad."

Kim Abel added: "I live in Ireland but originate from England and if I'm honest I do not remember this story but do James...I can't believe this case got so much media and yet Jamie did not...after seeing this i've shared his story over here so more people are aware of this little angel...also the fact his killer is on Facebook...im so sorry for little Jamie.
