WES FODERINGHAM 6 Handed a rare cup outing and won’t want to see his early howler again as Forrest gave Ayr the lead. Responded well, though, as his error didn’t prove costly.

JAMES TAVERNIER 7 The right-back has been a key player for Rangers this term and is in talks over a new Ibrox deal. Was important once again here. Got forward well and was always a danger down the right.

DAVID BATES 6 Could only watch on as Foderingham failed to control his back pass and Rangers fell behind. Had little to do in the second half as the Gers dominated.

RUSSELL MARTIN 6 His experience was key as he led by example from the back. Came close with a header in the first half and then helped Murty’s side see it out.

DECLAN JOHN 6 Was forced off at half-time against Thistle in midweek but took his place at left-back here. Got up and down the flank well and added his weight in the final third.

SEAN GOSS 7 Saw plenty of the ball as he looked to dictate play from a deeper midfield role. Unlucky to see a shot hit the bar before Morelos netted the rebound. Set up Windass for his second and was impressive throughout.

GREG DOCHERTY 6 After a couple of substitute showings, he finally made his first start following his move from Hamilton. Worked hard on the right of a tight midfield and will be satisfied with his efforts.

JOSH WINDASS 7 Almost pulled the Gers level as he headed a Tavernier cross onto the bar from six yards. Got his rewards and goals after the break as he added another two to his tally this term.

JAMIE MURPHY 7 Has shown flashes of what he is capable of since joining the Gers and this was a similar afternoon. Got more influential as the game went on and netted his first goal for Rangers in the closing stages.

ALFREDO MORELOS 8 Missed a sitter from a couple of yards put then made amends to pull Rangers level. His second added a shine to the score line for Rangers and was a reward for an industrious display.

JASON CUMMINGS 7 Kept his place in the team as he and Morelos started together for the first time and the partnership showed early signs of promise. Classy finish came at just the right time as he put Rangers 2-1 up.

Subtitutes:

KENNY MILLER 4 (for Morelos) Striker was given a warm reception by the travelling support as he made his return to the side after several weeks out of action

EDUARDO HERRERA 4 (for Cummings) A rare appearance for the Mexican as he was given the final quarter of an hour to make an impression.

ANDY HALLIDAY 3 (for Windass) On for the final few minutes as Rangers saw the game out comfortably.
