SCOTTISH Water and First Bus will be held to account at a public meeting today.

Local councillor Soryia Siddique invited both organisations to talk to constituents after multiple concerns were raised about traffic delays and bus routes.

Group Southside Connections Senior Forum had contacted the councillor to ask for clarity on issues in the area.

Now they will quiz bosses directly.

Dr Siddique said: "Constituents and Southside Connections Senior Forum have raised concerns regarding re-routing of buses due to sewage pipe works being carried out on Aikenhead Road, lack of bus services, bus stops and the rise in bus fares.

"I have requested First Bus and Scottish Water attend the community meeting to address community concerns and take actions to improve local people's travel journey."

Scottish Water has closed Aikenhead Road, in Toryglen, as the latest work on the Shieldhall Tunnel upgrade is underway.

The busy road closed in January for five months and has meant the re-routing of traffic, including local bus services.

Held at 10.30am this morning in Dixon Halls, Govanhill, local people will be looking for answers to problems they are experiencing with the changes.

Locals said some buses that should be travelling along Cathcart Road are failing to do so.

They also claim there is a lack of bus stops, making travel less accessible for the elderly.

Some residents are having to first travel from Govanhill to Mount Florida to catch a bus into town.

They will be asking First Bus for a temporary bus stop on Cathcart Road opposite Nutberry Court to make travel easier.

The meeting is open to everyone in the area who is affected by the travel changes.

Dr Siddique added that questions will be asked about changes to bus fare prices as well.

Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water Corporate Affairs Regional Manager, said: "I'm pleased to have been invited along to this public meeting.

"It's a great opportunity to talk about the work Scottish Water is doing to tackle flooding in the area and improve the city's sewer network."

First Glasgow confirmed the attendance of one of their representatives at the meeting but declined to comment as a spokesman said the meeting would be led by Scottish Water.
