GLASGOW Summer Sessions will be returning to the city in 2018 with one of the biggest headliners in its five-year history.

Grammy award-winning Kendrick Lamar will headline the outdoor festival at Bellahouston Park on Wednesday August 29.

The news comes after organisers announced that the Summer Sessions would be expanding in 2018.

The show will be the third time the rapper has performed a headline show in Glasgow, following his sold out performance at The SSE Hydro on Sunday.

Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts said: “We are really excited to announce Kendrick Lamar as the first Glasgow Summer Sessions headliner for 2018.

“Following in the footsteps of Eminem, Biffy Clyro, and Calvin Harris, to name a few acts who have previously played Glasgow Summer Sessions, Kendrick is well and truly at the top of his game after an outstanding show at The SSE Hydro at the weekend and we can’t wait to welcome him back to the city in August.

“Glasgow will be buzzing this summer with TRNSMT and now Glasgow Summer Sessions taking centre stage, truly placing the city as a hub for the biggest artists in the world right now.”

Kendrick is the first addition to this year’s bull with more artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

His latest album picked up ‘Best Rap Album’ at the 2018 Grammys, as well as nods for ‘HUMBLE.’ with ‘Best Rap Performance’, ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best Rap Song’,

The rapper has collaborated with Rihanna, Dr Dre, Drake, The Weeknd, N.E.R.D and Snoop Dogg to name a few, and this year co-produced the soundtrack for Marvel’s newest, and most culturally significant, superhero movie Black Panther.

General tickets are priced at £59.50 with VIP tickets priced at £85. VIP tickets include entry to the exclusive VIP area with luxury toilets and separate bar.

TRNSMT festival will also be expanding to take place over two weekends in July with acts including Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Liam Gallagher headlining.

At Kelvingrove Bandstand, acts including First Aid Kit, Fleet Foxes and The Pretenders will be entertaining audiences.

Other festivals taking place across the city includes Riverside Festival and Stag and Dagger.

Tickets for Kendrick Lamar will be available from Thursday February 15 at 9am and general sale from Friday. Go to www.smmrsessions.com
