Four Tet

He started his solo career as the world’s foremost creator of folk-tinged electronica, but Londoner Kieran Hebden, who DJs as Four Tet, has evolved into a fully-fledged dancefloor don. His latest record, last year’s New Energy, is a whirlwind of headrush synths and dreamy, intoxicating bangers: housey highlight SW9 9SL (the postcode for the Brixton Academy, where Hebden has hosted a series of all-night parties) seems purpose-built for making a Glaswegian crowd go off, while the luxurious Planet builds to a lush, mesmerising finish.

This hotly-anticipated gig tomorrow night sees Hebden playing “in the round” – right in the middle of the Barrowland Ballroom’s historic dancefloor, while the official aftershow party at the Subbie features one of Hebden’s marathon DJ sets. Built on subtle, sophisticated ambient grooves that segue into driving, upbeat techno, they are a thing of sheer beauty: the sound of an artist with a rare ability for crafting textured, sensuous electronic music that is breathtaking in its vision. A must-see.

Four Tet, tomorrow, Barrowland Ballroom, 7pm – 11pm, sold out

Four Tet Aftershow, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, sold out

Foreverland

UK garage legends Artful Dodger, best known for bringing Craig David to the attention of the world via their 1999 hit Re-Rewind (and inadvertently inventing Bo’ Selecta! in the process), headline the Academy on Saturday in the latest of Foreverland’s sumptuously-produced and visually stunning series of shows. The British underground godfathers top a lineup of super-accomplished bass and grime DJs including Taim, Bassic and Bitr8, while a cast of circus acts, sideshows and an “adult playground” are also on hand for the easily-bored.

Foreverland with Artful Dodger, tomorrow, O2 Academy, 1opm – 3am, £20

Galantis

What is it about those Swedes and their way with a hook? The Stockholm duo Galantis started out as songwriters for the likes of Britney Spears, before putting themselves front and centre and rocketing their way into the big leagues with their ultra-catchy, very European electro house. This enormous show at the Hydro is their biggest gig in Scotland to date: if you’re a fan, you don’t need me to sell it to you. If you’re a pop culture aficionado looking for a perfect summation of what big-room dance sounds like in 2018, you could do worse than get along to this.

Galantis, Sunday, The Hydro, 6.3opm – 11pm, sold out

OOFT!

The Glaswegian producer Ali Herron launches his first full-length album, Intricacies of Modern Life, with an all-night session at the Berkeley Suite on Saturday. A self-defined house DJ, Herron – who goes by the rather more expressive moniker OOFT! – steps out of the confines of that particular genre on Intricacies, but underpins the album with the refined production you’d expect from a house purist. He plays from open to close here – expect a heady melange of jams that inspired the “Balearic pan-continental sound palette” of his debut LP.

OOFT! (All Night Long), Saturday, The Berkeley Suite, 11pm – 3am, £5

Steamed Jams

Any club night that uses weird and painfully obscure Simpsons-related humour to get punters through the door is a winner in this correspondent’s book. Steamed Jams gets its punning title from one of the animated series’ most iconic and absurdly hilarious moments, while the promotional artwork’s aesthetic has a psychedelic Marge engaged in wild-eyed, energetic krumping (it’s an Albany expression, Google it): it’s all deliciously nostalgic and odd at the same time. Profits from the night – which has Oscar Welch and Danny Mad spinning house, disco and techno (it isn’t just chopped-up Simpsons videos and vapourwave tunes, you know) – go to Centre Point, a UK homeless charity helping to house and provide education for young people. A worthy alternative is Sgutted’s 4th birthday bash at Flat 0/1: it has Glasgow’s “queen of boogie” Rebecca Vasmant digging through her eclectic record collection alongside Brandeaux and the marvellously-named Hunchback of Sinatra Jams.

Sgutted with Rebecca Vasmant, tonight, Flat 0/1, 11pm – 3am, free

Steamed Jams, tonight, Stereo, 11pm – 3am, £3
