A POPULAR Glasgow woman who had been battling a rare form of cancer has lost her fight at the age of just 27.

Danielle Hosie had publicly documented her fight with the disease, which affected her face, online in recent years after being diagnosed at 21 years of age.

The devastating news was broken online in the early hours of Friday morning by Danielle’s sister, Tonilea, who described how “my life has changed for good.”

She wrote: “My best friend was taken from us at 6.30pm. She fought until her last breath and then shut her eyes for good. She went peacefully, surrounded by her family with her monkey in her arms.

“She fought so hard for six years and suffered for a lot longer than she should have.

“She is finally at peace and is suffering no more.

“Rest in peace, my girl. My sissy always and forever.

“22.06.90 - 15.02.18.”

Just four weeks ago, Danielle - who worked in insurance and ran a small, Mount Florida-based tanning and beauty business called Dans Tans - broke the news to her friends that she had just six months left to live.

On January 20, she wrote: “As most of you know, I’m in the Beatson, but what you don’t know and the news we got given is I’ve been given six months to live. You all know me and know there’s no way I’m going down without a fight.”

Tributes to the brave young woman have been flooding in.

One pal said: “Just heard the worst news I could ever hear that my wee pal is now at peace. Danielle, my wee buddy, always a smile on her face and one of the bravest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. The angel in the sky now. Shine bright, beautiful. Love you.”

Another said: “Absolutely gutted and heartbroken to wake up to the news that Danielle has passed away. I have literally no idea where she found the strength to fight such a horrible illness for so long and to do it with a smile on her face was unbelievable.

“Sadly, I lost both my parents to cancer a few years ago and everytime it was the anniversary of their deaths or their birthdays, she took time out of her day - despite spending everyday fighting to see if I was okay.

“The world would be a far better place if there was only a couple more Danielles in it.”

“You really do take life for granted and moan and worry about the most ridiculous., insignificant s***,” said another friend.

She added: “Grab it by the balls and enjoy every minute of it. Live it like it’s your last day and love with every single breath you take. I’ll definitely be showing my loved ones how much they mean to me even more now.

“I had a pleasure of knowing you. Rest in peace, beautiful girl.”

Danielle had been diagnosed with cancer in the face. The diagnosis took her three years to get “because no-one expected a girl of my age, especially a non-smoker to get this type of Cancer,” she previously explained.

In a widely-shared post containing her fight over the years, Danielle said: “I was diagnosed with this on January 24, 2012. I was told I would need surgery immediately to remove the tumor as it had spread to the glands in my neck.

On February 20, 2012, I underwent a 16-hour operation to remove the tumors in my face and neck. Because of the sheer size, I had to have the left half of my face removed from the inside, which later got rebuilt. I then underwent seven weeks of intense radiotherapy which saw my face get scalded.”

Over the next three years, Danielle underwent numerous operations to rebuild her face, including a nerve transplant from calf to face, skin graft from thigh to forearm, muscle transplant from my thigh to face, numerous fat grafts from my stomach to face, facial manipulation, skin, nerve and muscle transplant from my forearm to face, neck dissection, and nerve transplant from the right side of her face to the left.

She also had to have numerous other procedures, such as fillers and botox.

Sadly, because the type of cancer she had was so rare, the research on it simply does not exist.

Sharing her tale just three weeks ago, Danielle described how she was “buzzing” to do a live radio interview on BBC with Kaye Adams and how she was also in talks with in talks with a ghost writer.

She said: “I tell you now,2018: everyone Will have heard of DANIELLE HOSIE. I’m gonna make sure of it.”
