A DRIVER was attacked and robbed while stopped in traffic in a suspected road rage incident in Muirhead.

The 31-year-old man was driving a grey Fiat Punto up Cumbernauld Road around 4pm on February 6 when he noticed a black car behind him flashing its lights  and making hand gestures.

The Fiat driver then stopped his vehicle at stationary traffic at which point the two men from the black car got out and assaulted him.

One of the men took his car keys and the second one attacked him.

The victim made his way to hospital and was later released following treatment.

Police later received a report of the incident and enquires are underway to locate the suspects.

Officers are in the process of checking CCTV images for any additional information and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Mark Smith, Cumbernauld Police Office, said: “We need to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened here and why. The incident occurred near to a bus stop where several people were waiting on a bus.

“I am appealing to these people to contact us and they could provide information relevant to our enquiry. A number of motorists were also in the area and may have witnessed the attack.

“If they have any information or any dash cam footage, I would urge them to contact us.”
