A BELLSHILL schoolboy with chronic kidney disease couldn’t believe it when Script singer Danny O Donoghue took off the jacket from his own back to gift it to him before the band’s gig at the SSE Hydro.

Twelve year old Kyle Aitken was a guest of the Irish band at their Glasgow gig on Saturday night when Danny heard about his illness.

Kyle who suffers from rare condition, PUV, which causes severe bloating and pain, and affects just one in 36,000 births in the west of Scotland each year, was with his gran Marion and had been taken to meet the singer along with some other sick kids by the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker foundation.

Glasgow Times:

The youngster whose mum Caryn fundraises for Kidney Research UK and will be donating her own kidney to help him, had been a fan of the Man Who Can’t Be Moved hitmakers since he was wee and even tried to meet them unsuccessfully two years ago.

Marion said: “We were going along for a quick handshake. Kyle had wanted to meet Danny a few years ago but was too unwell so he was thrilled to be in the same room as him. I told Danny that Kyle was due to go into surgery for a kidney transplant in April and that his mum was donating her kidney to help him. The next thing I knew he was taking off the jacket from his own back to give it to Kyle.”

Kyle said: “Danny gave me his jacket and just turned round and said there you go -take that. I still can’t believe it. It’s a hoodie type baseball jacket and it’s really cool. He told us he was looking for a Scottish flag to take on stage. He was also practising some Scottish slang.”

Les Hoey from the Dreammaker charity said: “In twenty six years of doing this with all the bands and singers this is one of the kindest gestures I’ve seen being done. It’s put the week fella on a real high ahead of his transplant.”
