A 60-YEAR-OLD man launched into a racist tirade and wielded a golf club in reaction to feeling "alarmed and frightened".

James McMoran accepted that he "behaved in a completely unacceptable manner" when he came across his victim.

The accused acted in a racially aggravated manner, shouted and swore, uttered threats and used racist language during the encounter in Glasgow's Gallowgate on June 15 last year.

He also pushed his victim off a bike, lunged towards him and struck him with a key, and brandished a golf club.

At the city's sheriff court, McMoran pleaded guilty to acting in an aggressive manner.

His lawyer explained that the accused had been drinking and his unacceptable behaviour was in reaction to feeling "alarmed and frightened" of the complainer and his friends.

Sheriff Mary McCrory sentenced the accused, of Saltmarket, to a Community Payback Order with supervision for a year and 180 hours of unpaid work to be completed within four months.
