POTHOLE reports have trebled from last year during our #spothole campaign.

Glasgow City Council bosses have confirmed that last year there were 1032 potholes reported from January 11, 2017 to February 23, 2017.

But this year, during the same time frame, there have been 3061 pothole reports - and 7930 pothole repairs.

The cold weather snap is responsible for the rise - but so is our awareness raising campaign.

We have been on the hunt for the biggest pothole in the city with a reward of tyres worth up to £1000.

Gordon Kinsella, a complaints advisor from Old Kilpartrick, got in touch to tell us about his pothole disaster in Knightswood.

He was driving to work when his car struck a pothole on Alderman Road, Knightswood.

And he described his vehicle as "a write-off".

He said: “The car’s a write off. The suspension and the brake damage makes it uneconomical to repair.

"New suspension, new tyres either side and new brakes, I’d be north of £700 to repair it."

Mr Kinsella added: “I tweeted the council but I’ll be giving them a call.

"They’re always terrible to do anything, then you tell them what it is and they go out and do a patch up job.

"Then the same thing will appear in a few weeks’ time.

“The council has been less than helpful and make you feel as if it’s your fault and these things just happen.

"They need to be forced to do anything at all. They should take your car off you, give you a temporary car, repair your car and give you it back.

"That’s what happens with car insurance claims so that’s what they should be doing, that’s why you pay your road tax.”

We have previously told that during the “snow week” that ended on January 21, squads carried out 394 temporary repairs per day - 3546 over nine days - and an average of 27 squads were out each day.

From January 29 to February 8, some 1161 permanent repairs were completed.

Currently, there are 71 daily reports to the council of potholes but this peaked at 273 on January 31.

But not everyone is happy with the extra work the council is putting in.

Michael Toal previously told in the Evening Times about the mess that is Simshill Road.

Potholes along his road were temporarily patched - but now Mr Toal says they are worse than ever.

He said: “Back to square after recent repairs.

“The potholes are very, very deep and cars need to swerve to miss them.

"Plus the amount of road stones and chips are dangerous.

“The potholes were repaired but the road looks like a chess board.”

Time is running out to enter our #spothole campaign.

The Evening Times is offering a prize of new tyres worth up to £1000 for the driver who finds us Glasgow’s worst pothole.

Take a photograph using an item such as a copy of the Evening Times for scale and send it to us via direct message on our Facebook page.

Alternatively, e-mail your pothole to news@eveningtimes.co.uk, or tweet it using the hashtag #spothole

Give us your name, the location of the pothole, its size and tell us how long it’s been there.

The pothole we deem to be the most dangerous based on size, location and length of time left unresolved will win the prize.

We will print your name with your picture.
