BIG-HEARTED homeowners are being asked to take in a refugee.

Glasgow-based charity Positive Action in Housing said so far more than 6700 households have signed up to host destitute refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable people in a crisis.

So far the charity has provided more than 60,000 nights of shelter across the UK for refugee families, individuals and young unaccompanied asylum seekers.

But more are needed to help with the refugee crisis.

Positive Action in Housing pioneered the UK’s first refugee hosting programme in 2002 in response to an increasing number of refugees being forced into destitution.

Room for Refugees offers temporary, free shelter in people’s homes to people from refugee communities who have no recourse to public funds or emergency housing.

The charity said the programme is entirely voluntary and no money changes hands.
