THE sister of a man who was killed in a violent street attack believes the community of Renfrew can help catch his killer.

Amanda Digby, 35, told of her heartache over losing brother Paul Mathieson, 37, who was found with serious injuries in the town's Houston Street after a night out on January 13.

Making a fresh appeal, she told the Paisley Daily Express: "We are all finding it extremely difficult, especially as time passes.

“We would like to thank the police for all the efforts being made, but I think the answers lie within the Renfrew community and would plead with anyone to put themselves in our position and do the right thing.”

Amanda has now launched the #JusticeforPaul campaign in a desperate bid for answers.

She warns that another family could suffer the same loss as hers, if the person who beat her brother to death is not caught soon.

She said: "“We were a family who never thought this would ever happen to us – but it has – and it could happen to any other family while there is still a killer on the loose."

She added: “Paul had so much life ahead of him and that has been taken away.

“He has left a void which will never be replaced and, although we cant bring him back, we have to do everything in our power to help get justice.

“ It’s devastating enough to lose someone so young but for their life to have been taken from them by another individual makes it so much harder to take."

Paul had been out drinking in the town the night he was killed, visiting The Kind Man’s pub, in Hairst Street and the Western Bar, in Main Street, before buying a pizza and making for home.

Murder cops say the unprovoked attack was caught on CCTV, which shows Paul speaking to another man before being savagely battered to the ground.

He lay on the ground for some time before the alarm was raised and he died six days later at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

We previously revealed independent charity Crimestoppers have offered a £10,000 reward for any information that leads to the conviction of Paul’s murderer.

Anyone with information on the murder of Paul Mathieson can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through the non-traceable Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
