IT was back in early June last year that the award-winning British-Japanese DJ Maya Jane Coles was poised to sweep into SWG3, ready to tear the famous Scottish crowd a new one for the first time in two years.

That gig was postponed, but eight months later we stand ready all over again to welcome one of the rising stars of British house to Finnieston for a night of wonky, melodic house music.

Last weekend, alongside Ellen Allien and Satoshi Tomille, Coles headlined Ministry of Sound’s new He.She.They party, which put the focus firmly on inclusivity and individuality. And before that she had a storming end to 2017 which saw her scoop Best Producer and Best Album at DJ Mag’s Best of Britain awards for her latest album, Take Flight. She’s a regular at the world’s biggest clubs, and is one of the UK’s most consistent, inventive, and above all, fun DJs. Get in about it.

Before that, Daniel Avery gets the Finnieston venue jackin’ tomorrow night with one of his customary five-hour sets. The hyper-rhythmic New Yorker is stretching his legs in anticipation of his expansive, seductive new album’s release in April. The follow up to Drone Logic, which quickly became a favourite among dance music’s tastemakers when it was released in 2013, Song for Alpha is out on Phantasy, and this marathon set should give you a taste of the seriously good stuff that’s going to be on there.

Also jetting in from the Big Apple this weekend – Brooklyn’s Jacques Renault, who brings his roving house, disco and techno party to the Berkeley Suite while Coles is tearing it up further west. While all of these hotly-anticipated house parties are going on, SWG3’s warehouse hosts the afterparties for the enormous country music gigs taking over the Hydro. So that should be pretty wild too, yeah?

• Maya Jane Coles, Saturday, SWG3, 10pm – 2am, £15

• We Should Hang Out More with Jacques Renault, Saturday, The Berkeley Suite, 11pm – 3am, £8

Dusky

Embarking on their 17 Steps tour, London duo Dusky arrive at the Sub Club tonight on the crest of a wave: they’ve been on a run of well-received shows, including a Belfast date with Maya Jane Coles that was, by all accounts, off the scale. Their maximalist rave vibes are backed up by Toronto’s Bwana, who mashes together post-dubstep, trance, ambient and house into a singular, head-spinning melange. Tomorrow, Glaswegian figureheads Slam return with their monthly Sub Club night, this time featuring native Berliner Vril playing his euphoric, energetic techno live.

• Show with Dusky, tonight, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £12

• Return to Mono with Slam and Vril, tomorrow, Sub Club, 11pm – 3am, £12

DJ Storm

After 20 years in the game, DJ Storm is known as the First Lady of Drum and Bass for a reason. A revered name for fans of jungle and rave, she’s one of Metalheadz’ chief selectors and a fine addition to OH141’s first party of 2018. Support comes from TLC Sound System's main operators and resident DJs, brothers Al-Shy and HSLA.

• DJ Storm, Saturday, The Art School, 11pm – 3am, £7

Loosen Up

Regular readers will be aware that on any given weekend in this city, the best parties are spearheaded by women. In addition to Storm and Maya Jane’s more prominent billings, there are a host of smaller girl-led bashes across the weekend: digital dub and reggae selector Vixen Sound headlines Walk n Skank tonight at the Berkeley while Bristol’s Shanti Celeste spins dark house and techno to La Cheetah tomorrow. And on Saturday, the Push It DJs raise the BPM at Stereo with a clubland classics special, as Pretty Ugly puts the girls of indie and pop at the forefront at their International Women’s Day party.

• Walk n Skank with Vixen Sound, tonight, The Berkeley Suite, 11pm – 3am, £5

• Shanti Celeste & DJ Python, tomorrow, La Cheetah, 11pm – 3am, £12

• Push It, Saturday, Stereo, 10pm – 3am, £4

• Pretty Ugly, Saturday, The Admiral, 11pm – 3am, £5
