DON'T risk missing the match is the advice from cop in charge of this weekend's Old Firm fixture.

Match Commander, Superintendent Alan Murray has warned supporters from both sides to be on their best behaviour ahead of the Rangers v Celtic SPFL fixture on Sunday at Ibrox Stadium.

Superintendent Murray, said: “We want the focus to be on the football and I am urging the thousands of supporters attending this match, which is important for both teams, to behave responsibly. We have planned extensively with the safety of the public being our priority.

“There will be a noticeable increase in the number of officers in and around Glasgow and we have been working closely with partners to ensure each supporter can get to the match and home again safely.

“While the majority of the supporters attending matches are well-behaved and enjoy the game, we know all too well that there is a small minority who may drink too much and engage in criminal behaviour such as disorder, offensive behaviour and vandalism.”

Supporters of both sides are also being reminded that Police Scotland will be carrying out operations to ensure their safety and security and that Glasgow’s city centre, and the area surrounding Ibrox Stadium, will be busy.

Superintendent Murray added: “Make sure you know your travel plans for before and after the match in advance, drink responsibly and be aware of what you can and can’t bring into the stadium.

“Anyone intent in causing disorder, indulging in antisocial behaviour or hate crime can expect to be arrested by police. So don’t risk missing the match.

“Remember that police officers are also there to facilitate your safe enjoyment of the event. So, if you need advice please don't hesitate to approach them. They are there to help and like to engage with supporters, so if you have the time, please feel free to stop for a chat."
