A GLASGOW MP has baffled the record keepers at Westminster by quoting Robert Burns in a question to Theresa May.

Stewart McDonald, Glasgow South SNP MP started his question by stating "facts are chiels that winna ding" from Burns poem 'A Dream'.

But he later received a hand written note marked urgent on official notepaper from Hansard, who record word for word what MPs say in the House of Commons for the official record.

It stated: "I'm afraid I didn't catch the first few words of your question to the PM. Please advise."

Mr McDonald may not have helped them much when he returned the note in his handwriting repeating the phrase "facts are chiels that winna ding. ".

Later he posted a photo of the note stating "Poor Hansard."

His question was about Spanish ports allowing the Russian naval fleet to refuel.
