A MAN has been jailed for a drunken tantrum on the day of a family funeral.
Thomas Baird, 38, came to the attention of police and was handcuffed for his boozy behaviour. The accused then began to shout and swear before attempting to headbutt one of the arresting constables.
Baird continued his abusive tirade within a cop car on the way to Cathcart Police Station and acted in an aggressive manner.
Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that he was highly intoxicated.
Defending, Mrs Robertson agreed: "There was alcohol consumed."
She explained that her client had attended a family funeral that day and accepted full responsibility of his drunken actions.
Mrs Roberston described the CCTV footage of the incident, noting that Baird was surrounded by four officers who had him "pretty much in their grip".
She also emphasized that the accused had already spent 25 days on remand for the outburst.
The incident, within Shettleston Road, took place on January 18 this year.
Sheriff Brian Adair highlighted that Baird committed the offence whilst already subject to a Community Payback Order for another matter.
Due to this, Sheriff Adair could see no alternative other than custody. Baird, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 175 days.
