IN CELEBRATION of footballing legend Bobby Brown’s 95th birthday, Hampden Park will host a fundraising afternoon with the former international player and Scotland manager this Friday.

All proceeds from the fundraiser – organised by Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events – will go to a cause close to Bobby’s heart; Variety Scotland, a children’s charity that aims to support families and their children suffering from sickness, disability or disadvantage.

Craig Younger, general manager for Sodexo Sports and Leisure at Hampden Park Stadium, said: “It is a privilege to be able to pay tribute to Bobby Brown and create a memorable event for guests, the charity, and of course Bobby himself.

“We are honoured to have the opportunity to support Variety Scotland and celebrate the successful career and life of the football legend Bobby Brown at Hampden Park, a venue steeped in footballing history.”

Throughout the lunch guests will also hear from sporting greats including Tommy Docherty, Craig Brown and Eric Davidson.

Renowned football commentator Chick Young will compère the event. Known for his trademark laugh and sporting expertise, he will also host an auction and raffle to raise funds for Variety Scotland.

On arrival guests will be invited to join a drinks reception in the Millennium Suite, which boasts unrivalled views across the National Stadium pitch.

Following this, over 150 attendees will be treated to a delicious three-course lunch in the Lomond Suite.

David Buskie, head chef at Hampden Park, has created a bespoke menu for the day using quintessential Scottish ingredients, paying homage not only to Hampden Park but also the Scottish sporting greats within its walls that day.

Alan Fraser, past chairman at Variety Scotland, added: “Recently, Bobby said his proudest moment in football was playing against England in the Victory International at Hampden at the end of the Second World War. Having started his senior football career at Hampden, it’s truly amazing that over 70 years later Variety Scotland, the children’s charity, help him celebrate his 95th birthday at the home of Scottish football.”

Tickets can be purchased online via Variety Scotland at variety.org.uk/events/bobby-brown-tribute-lunch or by contacting the charity on 0141 357 4411.
