A VIOLENT prisoner who absconded from a Dundee Jail has been found.

Cops hunting for Anthony McGinley, 33, who is a convicted prisoner currently serving a sentence at HMP Castle Huntly, by Dundee confirmed they traced him in Paisley.

A search was launched for McGinley, who has links to the Castlemilk area of Glasgow, after his temporary release licence was revoked whilst away on home leave.

McGinley was convicted of a fatal knife attack in 2012.

He was sentenced to nine years behind bars for stabbing 25-year-old Darren Gavan in Castlemilk in 2012.

Glasgow Times:

During sentencing, McGinley was told that he was "a danger to the public" by judge Lady Stacey at the High Court in Glasgow.

He also had previous convictions for serious assault in 2003 and was jailed for 18 months in 2008 for another attack.

It is understood that the family of Darren Gavan were informed that he was on the run but they did not wish to comment.

Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that absconder Anthony McGinley, missing from HMP Castle Huntly, has been traced in the Paisley area and is in custody.

"We would like to thank the public for their vigilance and assistance."
