A CLYDEBANK woman was left in 'shock' thanks to a man's kindness after she lost her niece's birthday gift.

Francesca Walsh, from Clydebank, had been shopping for her niece Lexi’s fourth birthday present when she stopped off for breakfast in McDonald’s.

After leaving the fast food restaurant she noticed she had misplaced the bag of gifts, and upon her return asked a group of nearby guys if they had seen it.

However, when Ivor Williams and his three friends saw the 27-year-old leave in tears over the lost gifts, they decided to do something about it.

That was the moment when Ivor got up out of his seat, found Francesca in a nearby toy shop and gave her the money to replace the presents.

Francesca told the Clydebank Post: “I was so shocked. The fact that he came looking for me. Ivor approached me in the toy shop. He said to me ‘what was in your bag?’ “I told him it was a dress, top, pair of leggings and a jigsaw for my niece. He put his hand into his wallet and said, ‘take this, it’s my good deed for the day’.

“He gave me a massive hug and the toy shop worker said it was just such a nice thing to see someone do.

“I felt bad taking it from him, but he said, ‘don’t feel embarrassed and go and replace the gift’. I was a wee bit annoyed that I hadn’t picked it [the bag] up or I had misplaced it. He made my day.

“Half an hour before someone could’ve lifted the bag and gone off with it and he’s gone and done that. It’s restored my faith in the people of Clydebank.”

She added: “I was just so grateful. It’s a random act of kindness.

“You just don’t think that’s going to happen to you.”

Francesca met Ivor and his friends for a coffee on Monday morning to thank them for clubbing together and giving her the money to replace the gifts.

Ivor, a painter decorator by trade, explained they had just reacted naturally to seeing someone upset.

He said: “It’s nice to be nice. I don’t like to see a young lady in distress. We all felt sorry for her.

“I said [to my friends] ‘keep an eye out for that lassie and I will talk to her’.

“I disappeared and asked ‘by the way, what was in your bag?’ She told me so I said ‘here you go darling, here’s 20 quid.’”

When Francesca admitted she had resigned herself to losing her niece’s presents, Ivor pointed at her handbag and joked: “Don’t forget that bag, I’m not running down the road with that.”
