A Glasgow bride whose life changed considerably when she dropped a huge three dress sizes for her wedding, is using her success to shape a new career helping others achieve the same results.

Laura Wilson joined her local Slimming World group 10 months ago and now want's to encourage others to do the same.

Since losing the weight the 38-year-old has been training as a consultant for Slimming World, the UK’s largest group-based slimming organisation, and will take over the Queens Park group in Glasgow's southside in April.

Latest government figures reveal that 1 in 4 adults are obese and it is estimated that by 2034, this figure will increase to 1 in 3.

Laura said: "I joined the group in May 2017 as I was getting married that September. Whilst not obese I wasn’t entirely comfortable with myself.

"After researching online, Slimming World became the obvious choice for me."

Laura set out to lose a stone and was fairly confident that she could achieve this following the plan set out for her.

Laura continued: "I lost 2.5lbs in the first week and was more than happy with but then on week 2 I gained half a lb.

"I was gutted and thought about just leaving."

For Laura, the biggest loss came 4 weeks in, when she lost 4.5lbs.

As the weight fell off and her target became in touching distance, Laura took the decision to lower it.

Laura said: "My wedding day was the very best day of my life. I felt amazing in my dress (which I had to get taken in quite a bit).

"This was still the lowest weight I had been in a long time I had gone from a size 14/16 to a size 8/10.

"The change was a huge surprise for me and it made me want to help others to gain more confidence and achieve their ideal weight which is why I am becoming a consultant."

Laura’s Slimming world group will be held at Queens Park Govanhill Church of Scotland, every Friday at 9:30 am from the 6th April. For more information or to join Laura’s group call her on 07803 245552.
