THE BBC’s Newsnight didn’t alter a photo of Jeremy Corbyn its main presenter has stated.

Newsnight presenter, Evan Davis, said you don’t need to look far to find a picture of Jeremy Corbyn wearing a “Lenin hat”.

Speaking in Glasgow, he responded to the accusations the BBC show doctored a picture of the Labour leader to make his hat look more Russian.

During a talk at the Aye Write festival at the City Halls promoting his latest book, Mr Davis defended the impartiality of the BBC and said he and his colleagues always tried to be fair.

When asked about the controversy and if the BBC photo-shopped the hat onto the Labour leader, he said: No we didn’t. In the original photo he is wearing a Lenin hat.

“It’s not difficult to find a picture of Jeremy Corbyn wearing a Lenin hat.”

He said he was not presenting on the night last week when the picture that provoked controversy appeared.

He accepted however there could be grounds for criticism over picturing him in front of a Kremlin backdrop.

He added: “But it’s just a hat.”

In the wake of growing criticism over the BBC and alleged anti-Corbyn bias he defended his show and the BBC.

He said: “I think my colleagues try to be fair.”

The presenter added:” Too many people are looking too hard to try and prove there’s bias against their point of view.

“Very few people think the BBC is biased in their favour.”
