COUPLES spend a day and a half every year arguing about who does household chores according to a new survey.

Washing up, taking out the bins, vacuuming and cooking meals are the cause of most rows taking up more than half an hour every week.

The survey by a recipe firm found couples spend 34 hours a year bickering about menial household tasks.

Washing up was the most common source of an argument with 25% stating it a source of tension. Taking the bins out was a row trigger for 22%, vacuuming for 18% and cooking the family meal a recipe for a row for 17%.

More than one in five (21%) said their gripe was they are expected to do the lion’s share.

For almost one in five (19%) the frustration of never having enough time was the spark for arguments.

The survey found that household chores caused almost 60 million arguments in homes across the UK.

It also found that people spend around five hours a week on errands and chores every week.

Not everyone was grumpy about household chores, however. Completion of the tasks gave people satisfaction.

More than one in 10 (11%) who took part in the survey said the feeling of completing daily tasks has been more rewarding than sex.

One in 20 (5%) said it has brought them closer to their partner.
