Housing developers have been consulting with Police Scotland over plans to build homes in the Calton area of Glasgow.

Thenue Housing Association are spearheading plans to create 77 new homes a brownfield site made up of Abercromby, Tobago and Drake Street.

An application submitted to Glasgow City Council outlines plans to create a range of flats, houses and a wheelchair bungalow, each with a 'window pod'.

The pods will allow each resident to have their own outdoor space that can be used in all weathers due to a glazed screen to the front that can be opened or closed.

A proposal by the housing association and Mast Architects adds that Police Scotland have "consulted over key design elements" due to the fact the development is in a socially disadvantaged area.

The site is the former home of Calton Church, cotton works and slum housing in 1807.

The block bound by Tobago Street, Abercromby Street, London Road and Stevenson Street, has remained developed until recently.

Abercromby Street as we know it today was formally known as Clyde Street, which marks the boundary between Calton and Bridgeton district.

In a planning statement Mast explain: “Flats have been designed with dual aspect and careful consideration has been given to avoid any internal rooms allowing for natural ventilation in every room.

"Where possible living rooms and kitchens are front facing to main road’s keeping bedrooms and bathrooms facing over back courts for added privacy.

"The housing also has a shower room on the primary living level in addition to a family bathroom and en-suite off the main bedroom on the upper living level.”
