Residents in the West End have asked for extra police to patrol their streets during a specific SSE Hydro event.

Members of Yorkhill and Kelvingrove community council said that they have noticed a spike in property damage during 'darts nights'.

As a precaution they have requested extra police patrols on St Vincent Crescent, Corunna Street, Minerva Street and Way and Argyle Street, near the arena, before and after the event.

A spokesman for the group, said: "It’s darts night tonight at the Hydro, recognising there can be a spike in property damage we have asked, if possible due to the fire in Glasgow, for extra police patrols along, St Vincent Crescent, Corunna Street, Minerva Street and Way and Argyle Street."

The hugely popular Premier League Darts will kicking off at the SSE Hydro this evening with thousands of spectators expected to attend.

The venue has become a firm favourite for Scottish darts fans since the tournament's first visit in 2014, following its previous success at the SECC.

Following last year's event, a man who was walking with friends and family in Finnieston Street near to Lancefield Quay, was approached by a group of four or five men, and one of the men assaulted him.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that patrols would be in the area.

She added: "Our officers will be on the streets, which is normal for an event so if there is any disorder they will deal with it."
