TERRIFIED dog owners raised an alarm with cops after they thought poison was left in Southside streets - only to discover it flour.

Govan cops were inundated with calls from dog walkers in Pollok, Nitshill and the surrounding area after the mysterious white powder appeared in footpaths.

They were concerned it was poison and raised the alarm with police.

But the force said on Friday that it was in fact the local running club who lay the powder down, which is actually flour.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "We've received several phone calls and seen several posts on social media about white powder being found on footpaths in Pollok, Nitshill and surrounding areas.

"We can confirm it is nothing suspicious & is not animal poison as suggested on social media."

He added: "The white powder is in fact flour and has been placed there by a running club to show a pre planned route to runners.

"Thank you to everyone who contacted us."
