A CAR which smashed into youngsters in a Castlemilk attempted murder bid has been found burnt out.

Police confirmed the silver Vuaxhall Astra was discovered in a rural sport in Carmunock.

It has been uplifted and cops will now perform a forensic examination in a bid to hunt its driver.

Detectives have also confirmed the target of the attack was a 21 year old man who was in Stravannan Road around 3.30pm on Saturday.

He was walking across the road and as he passed in front of the group of children, the car struck him and continued to drive towards the group of children resulting in five of them being injured.

The car then continued along Stravannan Road and struck a parked vehicle, a VW Passat.

A 14-year old-girl was taken to Hairmyres Hospital but has been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The Evening Times understands the teen suffered a broken neck and medical staff describe her condition as serious but stable.

Four other youths, two girls aged 12 and 13 and two boys, aged 12 and 14 were treated for minor injuries but have since been released.

Extensive CCTV footage is being reviewed by officers dedicated to this inquiry.

Detective Inspector Peter Sharp said: "Six people have been injured in this incident, five of whom are children. Those responsible have shown total disregard for the safety of the public, this must have been a terrifying experience for those involved and it's imperative we trace whoever is responsible.

"I am appealing to people to contact us with any information, it doesn't matter if you think your information is not important, still pass it on as it could help us piece together the exact circumstances of what has happened and why.
