A TEENAGE girl has been hospitalised with a broken neck after a car ploughed into a group of youngsters in Castlemilk.

Five youngsters, including 14-year-old Roisin Walker, were run down by the maniac motorist behind the vicious murder bid on Saturday afternoon.

Distraught mum Trisha Mcgonigal told the BBC her daughter’s neck was broken, between the sixth and seventh vertebrae.

She explained the teen was in a lot of pain and waiting to hear from doctors about potential surgery.

Medics have described her condition as serious but stable, while her four pals – two girls, aged 12 and 14, and two boys, 12 and 13 – were treated for minor injuries but had since been released.

Resident Alan Wilson said fears the attack could be related to a gang feud, which killed young dad Jamie Lee in July last year, has the whole community on edge.

The 68-year-old said: “It’s certainly put a lot of parents on edge. How can you feel comfy letting your kids out if they’re going to be getting caught up in this gang nonsense? Castlemilk is a good community though, that’s for sure. I know a lot of people are rallying around the wee one’s family and we hope she pulls through and whoever has done this sees some justice.”

Detectives revealed yesterday the silver Vauxhall Astra which ploughed into the children around 3.30pm on Stravanan Road had been found burnt out in a rural spot in Carmunock.

A 21-year-old man has been confirmed as the target of the attack.

He was walking across the road and as he passed in front of the group of children, the car struck him and continued to drive towards the group of children. The car then made off towards Birgidale Road.

A 75-year-old resident who asked to remain anonymous told the Evening Times: “I live just across the road so I heard the car screeching and then heard a few screams.

“It’s a horrible thing for anybody to witness but for it to happen to people that age is just dreadful.”

Detective Inspector Peter Sharp said: “Those responsible have shown total disregard for the safety of the public, this must have been a terrifying experience for those involved and it’s imperative we trace whoever is responsible.”
