SCOTTISH funnyman Limmy has faked his own death on social media as part of an April Fool's Day prank.

The actor, real name Brian Limond, posed as his girlfriend Lynn to share the news with his 388k followers on Twitter.

He said: "This is Brian's girlfriend @Lynn_McGoo here. I am tweeting from Brian's account because he passed away last night. He had been battling an addiction to class A designer drug ecstasy. Thank you. April Fools."

The joke went viral with thousands of retweets and replies from fans.

The star is about to return to television for the first time in four years with Limmy’s Homemade Show, a collection of comedy clips filmed on his own and that claw back a bit of credibility for selfie sticks.
