ONE of Scotland’s most wanted men has been on the run for eight years.
Israr Ali remains a priority for Police Scotland who first issued an appeal over his whereabouts in April, 2010.
He is wanted in connection with the murder of Waqar Shah who was killed within his flat on Pollokshaws Road in Shawlands on April 1, 2010.
The 42-year-old was found dead in his flat at around 4.25am and a murder investigation was immediately launched.
The victim was born in Pakistan and entered the UK in 2000 on a six-month visa.
Police said he remained in the UK illegally after the six months and his immigration status at the time of his death was that of an “overstayer”.
None of his family were traced in the UK but next of kin in Pakistan were told about the death by police officers.
Fugitive Ali was last seen in the Stroke-on-Trent area at around 9am the day after the murder.
Strathclyde Police, which later changed to Police Scotland, said at the time that they had information to suggest that Ali had travelled extensively throughout the UK immediately after the murder.
Ali, who was born in Pakistan in 1974, uses many aliases including Aslam Ali, Mohd Ali, Zalfkar Ali, Fased Ali, Chaudhery Israr, Mohammed Israr, Israr Mageed, Israr Aslam and M Ahmed.
Police Scotland believe he could be in either France or Pakistan.
We previously reported in 2010 that Ali’s mugshot was being displayed on digital billboards across the country.
He appeared with some of Scotland’s other most wanted, who have links to Glasgow, on a huge screen at the back of van which toured towns and cities across the UK.
The tactic was part of a campaign by Crimestoppers, who were marking 10 years of their ‘Most Wanted’ initiative.
But no further clues were provided about Ali’s whereabouts despite the high profile campaign.
Ali is around 6ft tall, of stocky build with black receding hair.
If you have seen him or know someone who may have information of his whereabouts, please contact Police Scotland on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
