Brazen vandals have destroyed a number of bus stops on a busy road in Glasgow's east end.

Thugs left a trail of destruction on Tollcross Road and nearby Killin Street after they smashed a number of bus stops late last week.

Glass was left scattered across pavements and several of the stops are now out of use following the rampage.

Police are currently searching for those responsible for the damage.

One resident described the actions as “mindless”.

They added: “I just don’t understand why they would target bus stops which are used by everyone in the community and probably themselves and their families.

“They’ve created so much unnecessary mess and it makes the area look really run down.

“It was obviously a planned out thing because they hit so many in one go.

"With the bad weather, it's not ideal to not have a bus stop to stand in while you're waiting for a bus."

Despite the bus stops being taped off, operators have still been able to stop for passengers.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland, said: "Enquiries are continuing following a vandalism at a bus stop in Tollcross Road."

John Gorman, Head of Operations for First Glasgow, added: “First Glasgow condemns any acts of vandalism like the ones that have occurred at the bus stops on Tollcross Road.

“We have been in close contact with SPT, who maintain the bus stops, during this period and the damage caused is deplorable.

“Despite the damage, our services are running normally and drivers have still been recognising the bus stops and stopping for passengers in these areas.”
