A MAN has been jailed for kicking a door in to steal from a neighbour.

David McArthur, 32, was living within Clyde Place Assessment Centre when he was captured booting another resident's door open.

Fiscal depute John Bedford told Glasgow Sheriff Court that police were called to the residential provision for homeless males for another matter when they came across the broken door lock and frame.

The CCTV was reviewed and McArthur was recorded kicking the door open to gain entry.

The officers spoke to the resident of the room, who confirmed that the accused did not have permission to enter. When addressing McArthur, the police noted that he appeared to be under the influence of a substance. He later pleaded guilty to forcing his way into the room on March 2, 2017 with intent to steal.

In defence it was explained that McArthur had no recollection of the event and had a history of drug problems. His "life was miserable" at the time and he could see "no way out".

His lawyer stated: "He was pretty much at his lowest ebb."

The accused – who appeared from custody – is currently serving a 19-month prison sentence for another matter.

Sheriff Diana McConnell therefore sentenced McArthur to three months in jail for his antics. He was admonished for failing to appear at court without a reasonable excuse on October 12, 2017.
