CITY cops and other fundraisers will be cycling around the 12 Scottish Premiership grounds to raise money for charity- after their close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The team headed up by Glasgow Detective Chief Inspector Joe McKerns will begin their charity feat for Breast Cancer Care on Tuesday, April 24 at 6am at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park.

Together they will cover 360 miles over five days taking in the grounds of Kilmarnock, Rangers, Partick Thistle, Celtic, Hamilton Academical, Motherwell, Hearts and Hibernian on April 24. St Johnstone and Dundee will be covered on April 25 while a cycle to Aberdeen will take place on April 26 before the group complete their journey at Ross County on April 28.

The mammoth Tour de SPFL cycle is in honour of Giffnock Soccer Centre football coach and close friend Val Wallace who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The group also have other close friends who have been touched by cancer.

DCI McKerns said: “When Val was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, we decided to do this challenge as myself and my friends enjoy cycling.”

He added: “Unfortunately for me in one of the training runs, I fell and broke both my elbows and my wrist. I am now not able to do the cycle but I am going to drive the support vehicle.”

More than £7,000 has been raised so far for the challenge and the group hope to exceed their target of £10,000.

All money will go to Breast Cancer Care who are a UK charity providing support for people living with breast cancer.

The fundraisers will also push to boost their final tally for Breast Cancer Care by hosting a race night and disco at Loks Function Suite in Shawlands on Saturday. Tickets costing £10 are available by e-mailing valeriewallace1966@virginmedia.com.
