UNIVERSITY of the West of Scotland (UWS) Sport Coaching graduate Eric Horsburgh has achieved his dream of a top soccer coaching job in Canada.

The 23-year-old, who studied at the university’s Hamilton Campus, took up the post of Head Coach of the Northwest Academy Centres for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Before moving to Canada in 2017, Eric volunteered as a coach at the Scottish Football Association and while at UWS as part of his fourth year dissertation worked as a football analyst for Motherwell FC’s U17 academy team.

Eric said: “My work experience and dissertation while at UWS allowed me to prepare and understand the current role I am in.

"In the future I think that working with a university team in North America would be something great to achieve.”

The university’s BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching degree has been developed in partnership with sports governing bodies, sporting organisations and individual coaches to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills and hands-on practical experience to become a professional coach.
