GOVAN business success story Shearer Candles was visited by its local MSP after announcing it had sold close to half a million pounds worth of candles online in the past year.
Humza Yousaf visited the Shearer Candles factory on Robert Street to find out how the craft firm’s approach to e-commerce has helped it create additional jobs across its two Glasgow sites.
The 120-year-old business, which currently employs 50 staff, has increased its sales significantly after starting to sell through Amazon Marketplace seven years ago.
The firm recorded an annual turnover of £2.5m last year, of which 17 per cent was generated through Amazon Marketplace.
Rosey Barnet, who runs Shearer Candles with her husband Ian and daughter Stephanie, welcomed the Transport Minister to the factory.
MrYousaf, MSP for Glasgow Pollok, said: “It was a pleasure to be shown around the Shearer Candles factory by Rosey, whose family has been running the business for three generations.
"Shearer’s visibility in supermarkets and on the high street is a testament to their magic formula of quality and affordability.
"Their brand is a great international ambassador for Govan.”
