Plans have been submitted to transform a Springburn pub into a restaurant, take away and shop.

Developers are looking to ‘radically’ change the existing Ashfield Bar on Hawthorn Street to contribute to the range of services available to the local community.

The site, which is listed under Ashfield Football Club on the planning application, is found on the south side of Hawthorn Street, west of Finlas Street.

An initial planning application hasn’t indicated which restaurants and shop will be set up on the site.

The surrounding area is mostly residential but is opposite the local shops.

Developers Bennett say the plans relieve the existing ‘bland elevations’ and introduce light into the building.

A planning statement reads: “The development will also introduce light into the building as well as illuminate the area in the evening and in the hours of darkness, which will contribute to a safer and more secure environment.

“Whilst the property is on the edge of the Ashfield Local Shopping Centre as defined in the Development Plan, the redeveloped building will contribute to the local centre and increase the range of services available to the local community.”

The Ashfield Bar has been popular with locals for holding events and themed nights.
