A YOUNG girl has been left traumatised after she discovered her mum dead in a pool of blood when she returned home from school.

The 11-year-old, who was in her school uniform, was spotted sitting on a wall outside the property in Kirkintilloch in floods of tears by a neighbour who comforted her after the grim discovery.

Glasgow Times:

A murder probe has now been launched after a young woman was found dead in a quiet residential street in the town.

The 33-year-old was discovered in the back yard area of the property in Alexander Place at around 3.40pm yesterday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and it is understood that the woman had been stabbed.

Police Scotland confirmed they are treating the incident as murder.

Glasgow Times:

Michael Dunn, 58, above, who has lived in the street for 30 years said: “I came back to my house after taking my wife to a doctor appointment, I spotted the girl and I thought, ‘What is wrong with her?’

“My daughter went over and asked her if she was okay. She said, ‘My mother’s passed away’.

The Evening Times understands the mum had just moved into the property three weeks ago.

Mr Dunn added: “I don’t know how long she had been sitting there. I’m assuming it was from when she returned from school."

Mr Dunn added that his daughter is a nurse and that she went over to check and discovered the woman was dead.

The Dunn family looked after the little girl until her father arrived to pick her up.

It is not clear who raised the alarm but emergency services arrived at the scene at around 3.40am.

Police Scotland admitted that a post mortem examination is expected to take place in due course.

But initial enquiries carried out by murder detectives at the scene indicated that the death is suspicious.

Glasgow Times:

Today forensics were seen examining the backyard area of the property.

Plastic containers had been laid out on the pavement to protect vital evidence.

Several metres of police cordon blocked residents from accessing the street as the force continued their search for vital clues as to how the woman died.

The Evening Times understands however that cops are following a positive line of enquiry.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 3.40pm on Wednesday, April 18, police were called to a property in Alexander Place, Kirkintilloch, where the body of a 33-year-old woman was found in the back yard area.

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course. However, enquiries carried out by officers indicate the woman's death is suspicious and a murder inquiry has been launched.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and enquiries are ongoing."
