A GLASGOW hotel staff member’s somewhat accurate remark about Glasgow’s so-called “heatwave” this week has had Twitter in chuckles.

Twitter user Paul McGee, from Cheshire, revealed the hilarious conversation he had with the receptionist as he checked into the venue for the night.

Paul wrote: “Checked into my hotel in Glasgow last night and was told by the receptionist there’s going to be a Scottish heatwave. He followed up with ‘aye, that means the rain will be warmer.’”

Within hours, his post gathered close to 1,000 reactions with tickled followers also chipping in about the lack of sunshine in the city compared to the rest of the UK.

Glasgow Times:

“This made me giggle,” said one.

Another added: “That's why it’s called liquid sunshine.”

“Enjoy roaming the streets of Glasgow with only 3 layers of clothes on but expect everyone to be wearing shorts and a vest looking a shade of white you’ve never seen before,” was another brilliant comment.

Paul’s comment comes as the south of the UK is set for another scorcher as April’s summer-like weather promises a balmy beginning to the weekend.

Thursday was the hottest April day for nearly 70 years, with the mercury soaring to 29.1C (84F) in St James’ Park in London.

Friday’s highs are likely to be around 28C (82F) in the South East, the Met Office said, with most parts enjoying warmer conditions than normal for the time of year.

Glasgow’s mercury will hit highs of 14C on Friday and 17C on Saturday.

It might not be nearing the temperatures being experienced in London, but it’s still warm enough for us to get our taps aff at the weekend.
