A rail union has announced strikes over a bank holiday weekend and Scottish Cup Final day.

TSSA is taking industrial action in a dispute over CCTV staff working hours and conditions after staffing levels were cut last year.

Talks between the union and ScotRail management broke down earlier this week and three days of action have now been announced.

The CCTV staff will strike on Saturday May 5, Saturday May 19 when Celtic play Motherwell at Hampden and on Monday June 11.

The first day is the Saturday of the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The union say the changes have led to staff being overstretched and suffering stress.

A total of 17 staff were allowed to take voluntary redundancy last year.

TSSA claims an attempt to enforce compulsory night shift working on staff will mean fewer staff monitoring cameras while people are travelling.

The union said the ability of ScotRail to monitor the entire network track, stations and depots across the country was being compromised by the proposed changes.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA Leader, said: “This is a crisis entirely of ScotRail’s own making and our members have had enough.

“Our members have never worked night shifts before and their family lives shouldn’t have to be sacrificed due to ScotRail’s bad management.

“These strikes don’t need to happen at all – we’re ready to meet with Abellio at any time – they just need to stop forcing night shifts on their staff.”

After negotiators were unable to reach an agreement the strikes are now set to go ahead.

ScotRail however said the strikes are by just a few staff and trains will operate as normal on each of the days.

A spokesman said it will not have any impact on services for customers.

Previously ScotRail said their changes enhance security for passengers.

David Lister, ScotRail Alliance Safety assurance director, rejected the union’s claims.

He said“The vast majority of our employees are very positive about the investment we are making.

“The safety of our employees and customers is our priority, which is why our proposals will improve safety and enhance the information we provide to our customers.

“ It is wrong and misleading to suggest otherwise. “
