his is the comical moment a hapless reveller needed rescuing by firefighters after getting stuck on fence railings outside a nightclub trying to retrieve his phone.

The 18-year-old lad became stranded on the metal railings outside the popular nightspot the morning after he left his mobile inside the venue.

He had tried to clamber in to search for his lost phone when he inexplicably became trapped on the fence by the beer garden at around 8am on Sunday, April 15.

An eyewitness who spotted the stranded man said he had become trapped on the railings by his belt and was looking a "little worse for wear."

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "I didn't see all of what happened, so I'm not sure how he managed to get up there in the first place.

"It looked as though was trapped by his belt, it was wedged in between the railings and meant that he couldn't escape.

"He was completely unable to move, so that's why he couldn't escape. He looked a little worse for wear to be honest. Imagine that happening to you with a hangover.

"It could have been worse though, a few inches to either side and he could have been impaled.

"Apparently he was talking about how he had left his phone and wallet inside the club, and that was why he was trying to get back in."

A spokeswoman for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at around 8am to reports a man had become stuck on railings on Trinity Street, Worcester.

"We sent one crew from Worcester, the ambulance service and police were also in attendance.

"The young male was freed at around 8.10am before receiving a medical check and was found to be uninjured."

The image drew a wide reaction from social media users, who joked that he had been trying to access the nightclub for free.

David Poyner said: "When you don't wanna pay £5 entry."

Danny McAllister added: "Poor lad. I bet he was proper hungover at 8 in the morning and then this happens. Not the best cure."

Sian Henley wrote: "He must have been gutted after losing his phone on a night out and then you need rescuing by firefighters with a banging hangover. Hilarious." Carl Western put: "What a numpty. Just wait for the venue to reopen and then ask whether they've got your phone. He was probably still half cut."
