Hoops winger James Forrest has warned Celtic to take nothing for granted ahead of this weekend’s game against Rangers.

The Ibrox side went into freefall on the back of the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at Hampden last Sunday afternoon in a game which Celtic won despite barely breaking sweat.

Brendan Rodgers is undefeated in 10 games against Rangers and with Celtic requiring three points to win the league Sunday’s game will be the first league decider between the teams since the infamous 1999 ‘shame game.’

Celtic fans will relish the chance to formally cross the line at the expense of the Ibrox side but Forrest has maintained that there will be nothing assumed on the part of Rodgers’ side.

The Hoops passed up the chance to win it at Easter Road on Saturday afternoon and the winger appreciates that the level of performance was significantly below par.

“I think all the games against Rangers are different,” said Forrest. “You can’t assume anything. You can’t assume anything in a game, no matter who you are playing against.

“They will have their pride to play for. They won’t want to come to us ready to hand us the title. So we know that we will have to work for it and we are prepared to do that.

“When you go into any game of football it doesn’t matter what has gone before. This is a huge game and we just need to focus on getting the result we want from the 90 minutes. There will probably be a lot of talk this week leading up to it and a lot of hype but as players we just need to concentrate on getting back out onto the park and getting a win.

“It would be great to win it in front of our fans, of course it would. It seems that we have clinched the title away from home a lot so it would be sweet to do it on Sunday but I think you can’t get too caught up in thinking about that before you actually go out and put the work in.”

Forrest, meanwhile, insisted that there are no fears in the Celtic dressing room that Rodgers could be ready to head off to Arsenal.

Rodgers insisted after the game against Hearts that it would take something “extraordinary” to take him away from Celtic and Forrest believes that the Parkhead side should take it as a compliment that the 45-year-old is on the London club’s radar.

“I think it tells you just how well he has done with us,” said Forrest. “It shows his class. But we aren’t worried. We see him every day and his focus is on Celtic and making us better. Hopefully we can get over the line on Sunday against Rangers and give him another title to celebrate.”
