The body of missing Scot Liam Colgan has been found in Hamburg.

The 29-year-old from Inverness disappeared while on his brother's stag weekend in Germany in February.

His body was discovered in the River Elbe wearing the same clothes he had on the night he disappeared, according to the Lucie Blackman Trust.

Formal identification is yet to be carried out, Mr Colgan's driving licence was in the pocket of his jacket.

The charity has supported the Scot's family throughout the ordeal.

A statement posted on their social media says: "The Trust asks that Mr Colgan’s family be given space and privacy to grieve at this difficult time.

The charity’s Chief Executive, Matthew Searle recognises that a huge amount of people will be impacted by this news.

“An astonishing amount of support has been apparent in this case – the search for Liam has been joined by thousands of people, both German and British, and we would like to thank all of them for their support. Our thoughts are of course with Liam’s family and friends today.”

His family will not be commenting further on the discovering and will be speaking only through the Trust in the future.

Friends and relatives last saw Liam in the Veermaster Bar after which he was identified on CCTV footage from the Baumwall area of Hamburg.

His family and German police led a large-scale search in the surrounding area.

A statement released last week stated that the family would be widening their search to other large German cities.
