CITY planners have refused a major pub chain permission to extend on of their restaurants.

The G1 group wanted to add a two storey extension to the back of the Masala Twist restaurant on Byres Road in the city's West End.

A planning statement read: "The proposal is for an extension to a Byres Road premises and is

therefore not considered to be in the lane.

"The extension footprint falls within the original footprint of the Grosvenor Cinema Foyer which was originally accessed from Byres Road (traces of the roof shape can be seen on the western wall of the Grosvenor).

"The proposal is no higher than the existing building or has any openings or windows facing the residential property, and therefore will not adversely affect residential amenity."

City planners, however, denied the G1 group the opportunity to build an extension.

A decision notice said: "The proposal, due to lack of adequate on-site waste and recycling storage, would result in the displacement of the existing commercial waste and recycling bins, and storage of waste and recycling bins in the neighbouring lane to the detriment of the amenity of the Glasgow West Conservation Area and Partick/Byres Road Major Town Centre."
